Before Nik Greenblatt founded Defy, he was a sponsored snowboarder — riding professionally in the early '90s. Before Dean "Blotto" Gray became one of the most recognizable names in action sports photography, he was strapped into a board himself, riding since the mid-'90s and eventually spending over 17 years as Burton Snowboards' principal photographer.
Two guys who came up through the same culture, on the same kind of board, before either one picked up a camera or built a brand.
That shared history is the foundation of this collaboration. Blotto's eye — shaped by decades of documenting the sport from the inside — meets Defy's build, resulting in a piece that carries more than just two names on a hangtag. It carries a friendship rooted in snowboarding, streetwear, and the belief that good work comes from people who've actually lived it.
